Potato Beach

‘Back on the road, driving slowly, sipping coke’

Potato Beach Mastermind Jannik Rieß makes a direct confession with the first lines on “DIP IN”. With his debut, the German Viennese by choice and multi-instrumentalist behind Potato Beach confesses to drinking soft drinks while keeping to the speed limit - and thus to his own potato-ness. Potato Beach's thoroughly nostalgic garage rock doesn't even try to emulate the bravado and machismo of old (The Kinks) or new (Foxygen) inspirations. Rieß prefers to tell his own stories in the paralysing summer heat of Vienna, somewhere between staying too young and growing old too soon. The record doesn't need any daring somersaults from the ten to go deep. Instead, it invites us to dive deep into the red and white of the outdoor pool fries with our feet dangling at the edge of the pool. Tastes familiar - and quite delicious.
