Comic Figure
A lovely musical project by Paul Buschnegg (Pauls Jets) & Tobias Hammermüller (Laundromat Chicks)
The two songwriters, Paul Buschnegg (PAULS JETS), and Tobias Hammermüller (LAUNDROMAT CHICKS), met in Vienna's nightlife and promptly arranged a table tennis date. After chasing many ping-pong balls, they decided they might prefer making music together. The result is two post-internet Indie songs, which will be released on a unique 7" by Siluh Records. Together, they manage to create beautiful melodies and catchy hooks, blending Gen Z language ironically with subversive melancholy. The cover artwork was created by ‘Pauls Jets’ colleague, Kilian Hanappi.
"Oh, to be young and to drive somewhere... On the express train or in the car, at night, when everything feels significant. What it truly means of course, you can only discern in the rearview mirror. Although you probably wouldn't have one on the express train. If you're driving a car at night through the countryside, you may have a rear-view mirror, but still, you may not see much. Behind you, there’s only the suburban nightclub, doors closed, lights off. But then the sun rises, and as you gaze out over the valley, over your past life, you begin to perceive everything. Suddenly, you stretch out your arms, standing on some kind of railroad bridge, and down there, far below, someone else stands observing you. Against the sun, you cast shapes and shadows, becoming a figure, almost like a ‘comic figure’. Your outstretched arms send beams of light down towards the person you see below. And you start humming a melody. First, it's just you, then the two of you. It’s a melody that evokes something - perhaps something that hasn't even happened yet, though it feels like an old memory."
